Districts in Orangeburg and Dillon counties report average farm sizes under 300 acres, limiting opportunities for on-site mechanization training. Students who complete targeted modules demonstrate higher rates of enrollment in the state’s two-year agricultural technology programs.
Implementation requires partnerships between schools and county extension offices to supply calibrated soil-test kits and weather-station components. Teachers submit quarterly data uploads showing student-collected metrics on pH, nitrogen levels, and crop-water stress indices. The state education department cross-checks these uploads against Farm Service Agency acreage reports to confirm alignment with actual planting activity. Successful applicants receive equipment bundles calibrated for the state’s predominant soil series rather than national averages.
