South Carolina's coastal and inland hospital networks operate under distinct licensing rules that affect how neuroscience training curricula can be delivered to clinicians treating sporadic frontotemporal dementia. Training programs must obtain separate approvals from the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation for each of the state's four regional health systems before any standardized module reaches providers in Charleston versus the Upstate.
Physicians and advanced practice nurses in rural Midlands counties face restricted access to continuing education credits when programs require in-person demonstration of diagnostic criteria. The state's older adult population, concentrated along the I-95 corridor, presents higher proportions of vascular comorbidities that complicate frontotemporal dementia presentations. Training content must therefore incorporate South Carolina Medicaid billing codes that differ from those used in adjacent states.
Eligible doctoral researchers can use the funding to develop modular curricula that satisfy both South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners requirements and the specific needs of facilities serving Gullah Geechee communities. Proposals should include evidence that instructors hold active South Carolina licenses and that simulation labs meet state facility standards. Risk and compliance sections must detail liability coverage for hands-on training involving patients with behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia.
